Medication Management

Medication management is an art and a science. It requires input from the client and astute listening, intuition and knowledge from the provider to accurately diagnose, form a treatment plan, and prescribe effectively. With every relapse in symptoms, remission is harder and harder to achieve. While adherence to medication regimen plays an integral part in achieving remission, collaboratively forming the proper treatment plan is most important.

Consistency and compliance:

Consistency is important to obtain any meaningful change in any aspect of your life. In the context of mental health care, that means taking prescribed medications, exercising, sleeping, and eating well on a daily basis. At Remission, together, we will develop a plan to foster consistency and behavioural changes to improve your life.

Compliance in simple terms, is defined as “following the rules.” In medicine, compliance can invoke a sense of “following orders” without regard for autonomy or independent decision making. At Remission, we will come up with a treatment plan together to ensure that compliance will be wanted and encouraged, not something in which you don’t have a choice. This is necessary for long term success.

General Information on Psych medications:

There is increasing negative attention on Western medicine and the potential side effects of medication, especially psychiatric medications. While some medications have serious side effect profiles, at Remission, you can take comfort in knowing that treatment plans will be based on the most current evidence and decisions are made based on extensive consideration for multiple factors.
